How did the teams make it to the Final Four?
In order to make it to the Final Four, a team must first win their NCAA tournament region – meaning they must be the best team out of the 64 that are selected to compete. The selection process for the tournament starts in early March when smaller conferences have their conference tournaments to decide who gets an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament. Then, on Selection Sunday (which is always the second Sunday in March), the NCAA selection committee chooses the at-large teams for the tournament. They use many different factors to make their decision, including strength of schedule and how a team has performed recently.
Once the field is set, the teams are seeded from 1-16 in each region and placed into a bracket. The bracket is then played out over three weekends in March, with each weekend getting more and more intense until only four teams remain. These four teams are then sent to the Final Four, which is always held on the first Saturday and Sunday in April.
What are the storylines for the Final Four teams?
The four teams that have advanced to the Final Four all have interesting storylines.
The first team is the Cinderella story. They are a team that was not expected to make it this far in the tournament. They have fought hard and been victorious in some close games. They are the underdog and will be looking to upset the favorite.
The second team is the favorite. They are a top seed and have been a dominant force throughout the tournament. They have been consistent and their starters are all playing well together. They will be looking to continue their winning ways and take home the championship trophy.
The third team is a dark horse. They are not as big of a name as the other teams, but they have proved themselves thus far in the tournament. They have taken down some tough opponents and their confidence is high heading into the Final Four.
The fourth team is an experienced squad that has been to this stage before. They know what it takes to win and they will be looking to use that experience to their advantage.
